The Canon HF100 wins the day – Stunning outdoor performance and awesome low light performance. Just what i need to shoot the kids in and outdoors.

The competitors that i’ve personally tried failed miserably:

Panasonic SD9: Pretty small and portable, but produced unusable indoor low light shots with very high levels of grain. Outdoor shots unreliable as autofocus doesn’t seem to lock on very well.

Sony HDR-TG1: Lovely and small, but no manual controls and terrible low light performance.

So, at the price (even cheaper at Amazon), the Canon wins. There are better Sony’s (HDR-SR11), but not at the price nor the physical size.
